If your holiday isn’t complete without plenty of fresh air and open spaces, Perthshire is the perfect place for you. Whether walking, mountain biking, climbing or shooting are your passions, Nether Kirkton Farm Cottages provide the ideal base for you to enjoy the region known as ‘Big Tree Country’.
The landscape of Perthshire is both stunning and varied. Your walking boots could take you from the rolling hills of Strathearn to the rugged peaks of the Grampian Mountains. Close to The Trossachs, this beautiful area, famed by Sir Walter Scott, stretches from Callander and the glens of Perthshire. There are dozens of Munros for climbing, and in the far west of the region, on the Eastern shores of Loch Lomond, is the West Highland Way, Scotland’s most popular long distance hike.
If two wheels are more your style, there are numerous cycle trails through the forests and glens, and a long distance cycle path runs all the way from Glasgow, through the Trossachs, along the shores of Loch Tay to Pitlochry.
Glenshee and the Cairngorms are a short drive away for skiing and winter sports; the salmon fishing on the River Tay is world renowned; sailing and water sports are available on Loch Earn, or how about a round of golf at the famous Gleneagles course?
And what better place to come home to after a day in the fresh air? Wash down your bike/boots/dog with the outside hose pipes, lock your kit in the shed, and click on the super-efficient heating system while running a big deep bath. Pour yourself a well earned glass of your favourite tipple and some music on the MP3 player, and consider whether to eat in, or choose from the array of good local pubs and gourmet restaurants.
There’s so much to choose from. See our activities pages for more suggestions to make your holiday perfect.
